Information

At the end of the Winter 2012 term I was offered on opportunity to volunteer as an intern in the community of Neve Shalom, Wahat-as-Salam, the Oasis of Peace, a community of Israeli Jews and Arabs. Founded in the 1970s, NSWAS was founded as a cooperative village, proving to the world that Arab/Palestinians and Israelis can live together in peace and prosperity.

I will be interning at Peace College within NSWAS this summer. Peace College offers courses in conflict prevention and peace-building and I will interning with them for a period of four months this summer.

NSWAS and Peace College have given me an opportunity to travel to Israel/Palestine, something that I have wanted to do since I was 12 years old.

Here I will post entries and pictures of my experiences within Israel and Palestine.

Graffiti

 No Peace Without Dignity
The barrier is often shorter on the Israeli side.
In order to hide the true nature of the wall,
the Israel side is often packed up with dirt,
while the Palestinian side is between 1, to 2 stories.
Laced with barbed wire, gun towers and cameras.
Long live the revolution. I really love this piece.

One of the bi-products on the separation barrier is the graffiti. Artists and activist from Israel, Palestine and all over the world have sprayed painted their work on the wall of injustice. Some of it is really amazing!

Banksy, a graffiti activist (or all around street pirate) and one of my favorite artists, who also came to the West Bank to paint and express his outrage over the wall.

It astounds me that so few people know about what is going on here, the very real situation of apartheid, the segregation, the social and political violence, the restrictions on life and freedom, the ethnic cleansing and the racism.

I hope that the least I can do with the blog is convince a few of you readers out there to take a more active role in lobbying our governments for peace and not maintain a strangle hold or indifference and at worst, un-flinching and unquestioning support for Israel.

Here are a few snap shots from the West Bank.
